Pet blogging for love and money

I read Pet Blogging for Love and Money over the weekend, and when I finished I thought “where has this book been all my life?!”

This book isn’t just for bloggers (though that is the primary audience). If you own a pet business, or are thinking about starting a pet business in the new year, you owe it to yourself to read this book. From the micro- to the macro-, from content creation to analytics, monetization, and social media plans, Pet Blogging for Love and Money lays out everything you need to do to become a savvy, effective, and profitable blogger. I can tell you from experience that there are big digital marketing companies out there who didn’t know half of what Carol Bryant and Maggie Marton know about creating, publishing, and promoting content.

Full disclosure: I’m one of the featured case studies in the book (thank you, Carol and Maggie!), and I’d like to take this opportunity to reiterate one of the best pieces of advice I was given when I started writing my own blogs:

"Write ten minutes a day.... The important thing is to get into the habit and not be afraid of doing it. If you’re not a writer, it can be scary to contemplate publishing your words. Start small and get comfortable with the process as a daily professional practice."

Pet Blogging for Love and Money has also reminded me that there is always more to learn, no matter how long you’ve been in the pet business. We tend to get jaded by the daily grind of keeping a business running, and risk losing the joy of discovering new things along the way. After 25 years in the pet industry, I consider myself to be an “advanced student”, so to speak, but every chapter of this book gave me another nugget of information or a tip I hadn’t known before. Carol and Maggie did an outstanding job, from top to bottom - the information is solid, the organization is clear, and the value of what they’ve created is immediately apparent.

But don’t take my word for it - buy Pet Blogging for Love and Money and find out for yourself! Even if you don’t consider yourself a pet blogger, this book can help you in just about every aspect of your business.

About the authors:
